Cramerton-McAdenville Contract Police Services
April 5, 2006
For Immediate Release

Beginning May 1st McAdenville residents will start receiving police services from the Cramerton Police Department.  A contract signed in March by both McAdenville and Cramerton Town Councils will put Cramerton Police Officers on the road within the McAdenville Town Limits from 6 PM until 6 AM each day of the week.  A portion of the contract also utilizes Cramerton police to assist McAdenville officers with felony criminal investigations.

Cramerton Police Chief, Greg Ratchford, described the contracted services as a positive utilization of resources and indication that elected leaders in both towns are concerned about the well-being of their citizens as well as taking their responsibilities of managing taxpayer’s money seriously.

“Both my agency and the McAdenville Police Department want to ensure that the citizens receive lateral services from both agencies as well we want to make it clear that McAdenville is not and has no intentions of dissolving its police force.  McAdenville officers will continue to police the town each day from 6AM – 6PM.  As with most businesses and government entities during this time period there are limited financial resources.  This contract of police services from Cramerton to McAdenville makes sense logically, logistically, and fiscally.”  Ratchford stated in a written press release.

The contract will be effective May 1st, 2006 and will expire June 30, 2008.  Both municipalities will be monitoring the effectiveness of the overall plan to determine if either or both parties wish to renew the contract upon its expiration.  “We have carefully reviewed the plan. It has been reviewed with all parties as well as with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, a division of the North Carolina Department of Justice that oversees police training and certification.  Cramerton officers will have full police jurisdiction and powers within the McAdenville Town Limits through a dual swearing process” Ratchford said.

Two informational sessions will be held to answer any McAdenville or Cramerton residents’ questions concerning the policing contract.  The first will be held at the McAdenville Community Center at 6PM on Thursday, April 13.  The second meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 6PM in the G.M. Michael Council Chambers located within the Cramerton Town Hall.  Cramerton and McAdenville police will be on-hand at both meetings.
