Cramerton Police have filed additional charges in the early Saturday morning vehicle collision death of Daniel Dustin Fite and serious injury of Michael Glen Johnson. Officers served warrants on Kimberly Monique Smith, 31, 936 Sycamore Street, Gastonia for Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Felony Death by Vehicle, Aggravated Serious Injury by Vehicle and Reckless Driving. Smith was charged on Saturday with DWI. Smith was held in the Gaston County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
The collision occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and Lakewood Road in Cramerton. Fite was pronounced dead on the scene. Johnson was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Both Smith and her passenger, Lachaka Shonte Hemphill, 26, of Gastonia, were treated and released from Gaston Memorial Hospital.
