Cramerton Police were dispatched to the area of Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, November 9, 2007 shortly before 4:00 P.M. in reference to reports of a small airplane crashing in a wooded area. Officers located the pilot; Merlin James Ramsey, 69, of Murphy, North Carolina, standing on his aircraft using his cellular telephone to call the 911 communications center.
Ramsey received only minor injuries when his plane went down in a wooded area near Hamrick Drive in Cramerton. The airplane; a fixed wing, single-engine, 1975 Scottish Aviation Bulldog 120, received extensive damage due to the crash. No other property was damaged.
The cause of the crash is not known at this time. Cramerton Police and Federal Aviation Administration Officials are continuing to investigate.
