CRAMERTON POLICE WELCOMES McGRUFF

IMG_0626.jpgThe Cramerton Police Department would like to introduce a new tool to fight crime in our communities. McGruff, the crime dog, has joined the CPD force and will use his favorite crime-fighting techniques to teach children and adults specific tips to be safe at home, school, and work.  McGruff is a “ham,” and he loves being in front of a camera and around people and is looking forward to meeting the members of our communities during upcoming local events.  McGruff encourages people to join their neighborhood watch and help to keep our streets and parks safe and clean so they will be less inviting for criminal activity. McGruff’s local crime prevention focus will be to help teach children, teens, and adults about safety, crime reporting, community engagement, and drug abuse prevention.

McGruff is a registered trademark of the National Crime Prevention Council and has inspired citizens to get involved in building safer, more caring communities for over 25 years.  More than 75 percent of adult and children recognize McGruff and his crime prevention messages. That’s a lot of people who know how to "Take A Bite Out Of Crime!"

The Cramerton Police Department partnered with McAdenville based Pharr Yarns, LLC to work on funding for the McGruff Costume; and through the generosity of many businesses and individuals the costume was purchased in late September.  McGruff made his debut appearance on October 15 at the McAdenville Founder’s Day Celebration and Cramerton’s Annual Fall Festival.  The Cramerton Police Department would like to recognize and thank the following for their contributions that made the purchase of this crime prevention tool a reality: Pharr Yarns, LLC; Mel Collins; Lakeview Baptist Church; Helton’s Automotive and Wrecker Service; Diabetic Supply of Graco Inc.; William and Wendy Cauthen; Caromont Health of McAdenville; Syncot Plastics, Inc.; and Manufacturing Service Inc.

McGruff is available for local crime prevention programs and special events.  Interested persons can contact Officer Belinda Robinson at 704.824.7964 or brobinson@cramertonpd.org to discuss the character’s guidelines and availability.  Additional information, activities, and safety literature about McGruff can be found by visiting www.mcgruff.org or the National Crime Prevention Council at www.ncpc.org.
