Police Investigate Suspicious Fire

Cramerton Police are actively investigating a suspicious fire at the historic Mayworth School. Firefighters, police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the school at 12:02 P.M. on Sunday, August 12th in response to reports of a fire inside the building.  Upon arrival, responders found an active fire in the rear portion of the structure.  Firefighters contained the blaze to one portion of the building but the building sustained major damage.  Cramerton Police, the Gaston County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Gaston County Arson Task Force are conducting the investigation. 

     The building is currently owned by Preservation North Carolina but will be renovated by Landmark, LLC within the coming months.  Two firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.  No other injuries were reported.  Any persons with information about the fire are encouraged to call the Cramerton Police at 704.824.7964 or the Gaston County Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 704.861.8000.
